All India Entrance Examinations for Admission - 2018

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an apex body for coordinating, guiding, and managing research and education in agriculture in the entire country under the aegis of DARE, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare , Govt. Of India.  

For Undergraduate Degree Programmes (UG)

ICAR has been able to foster a countrywide arrangement with the AUs to set aside 15% of their seats for Bachelor degree programmes to be admitted through ICAR’s All India Entrance Examination so as to reduce academic inbreeding, increase mobility among students, encourage national integration and infuse merit and uniform examination standards leading to improved overall quality of higher agricultural education. Accordingly, ICAR conducts All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA) to Bachelor degree programmes in agriculture and allied subjects (other than veterinary sciences), at Agricultural Universities on 15% of the University seats (except RLB CAU Jhansi, NDRI Karnal and Dr. RP CAU Pusa, Bihar where 100% seats will be filledup) every year. National Talent Scholarship (NTS) of Rs.2000/- per month are awarded based on the AIEEA-UG examination to all those candidates who take admission outside their state of domicile. Further, not more than 40% candidates from any one state are admitted in any agricultural university/subject. There is no provision of direct nomination for admission through ICAR in any Master degree programme without qualifying in this examination.

For Postgraduate Degree Programmes (PG)

ICAR has been able to foster a countrywide arrangement with the AUs to set aside 25% seats of their seats for Master degree programmes to be admitted through ICAR’s All India Entrance Examination so as to reduce academic inbreeding, increase mobility among students, encourage national integration and infuse merit and uniform examination standards leading to improved overall quality of higher agricultural education. Besides, all (100%) seats of the four ICAR-DUs namely, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) and Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) are also filled up through the same examination. ICAR’s 23rd AIEEA-PG-2018 examination for the academic session 2018-19 will be conducted through Online Computer Based Test at specified centers spread across the country enabling participation of a large number of candidates seeking admission in Master degree programmes in AUs in different disciplines of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Veterinary, Animal Sciences, Agri. Engineering, Community Science (erstwhile Home Science), Fisheries, Dairy Science and other allied sciences. ICAR PG Scholarships for postgraduate studies will be awarded to 475 candidates based on merit in this examination as per their overall merit-rank and seat availability in different disciplines. The remaining admitted students will be awarded NTS (PGS). Candidates qualified for counseling will be considered for allocation of subject and the Agricultural University as per online counseling. There is no provision of direct nomination for admission through ICAR in any Master degree programme without qualifying in this examination.

For Ph.D. Degree Programmes

In order to make the NARES more responsive, reduce academic inbreeding, increase mobility among students, encourage national integration, infuse merit and uniform examination standards leading to overall improved  standards and quality of Higher agricultural education, the ICAR has been conducting the All India Competitive Examination for the award of 202 ICAR’s Senior Research Fellowship [AICE-SRF(PGS)], to pursue Ph.D. degree programmes in the universities under ICAR-AU system. However, centralized admission to 25 % of the seats (subject to at least one seat for each discipline having Ph.D.  degree programmes in the University) of Ph.D. degree programmes in the universities under ICAR-AU system was introduced from the Academic Session 2015-16. From the Academic Session 2016-17, AICE-JRF/SRF(PGS) examination is being conducted for all the accredited AUs under the ICAR-AU system, including 100% seats of Dr. RPCAU, Pusa, Bihar. For 4 ICAR-DUs, 100% seats are filled through their own separate national level entrance examination (as approved by GB, ICAR in 235th Meeting on 01.12.2015). There is no provision of direct nomination for admission through ICAR in any Ph.D. degree programmes without qualifying in this examination.
